Hey there friend!!
My name is Emma and I am the owner, creator and maker behind BRAES. I started BRAES in late July of 2020, (under a complete different name with 0 expectations of anyone actually buying anything) and now fast forward over a year later, here we are.
As I am sure you are aware, 2020 was a year for the history books. It was a year filled with zoom meetings, distance learning, tp shortages, and lots of binge watching, but most importantly, 2020 was a year of resilience. No matter what was thrown our way, we found a way to get through it and that is exactly what BRAES is all about.
You see here, in December of 2019 I walked away from an incredible job with amazing benefits, great pay and even better coworkers to pursue a dream of mine. January 2020 I started training for my new career, I was scared and stressed but so excited to finally be moving towards a goal that filled my cup. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved my previous job, but I just felt like I could do more, I wanted something more and I was finally making that a reality. Fast forward to approximately half way through training (3 months later...), I found out that 2 months prior, during training I had completely blew out one of my knees. Surgery happened 11 days later and the 9-12 month recovery began immediately. All in a matter of seconds, the entire plan I had for 2020 (well the rest of my life, for that matter...) was gone.
Now I would love to sit here and tell you how I kept a smile on my face, told myself every little thing was gonna be alright and my world kept spinning, but that is not quite what happened. I have always been a very optimistic person, but boy oh boy did that get put to the test! Losing a career, right as it was starting and being too injured to work right in the beginning of a global pandemic was not the most enjoyable thing I've experienced, but looking back on the last 13 months, I truly believe it was one of the best things I could have experienced.
In July of 2020, my boyfriend (now fiancé) bought me a Cricut for my birthday. He told me it was because he knows I am a huge DIY fan, but I am positive it was to keep me busy so I would stop bugging him. After a few projects for friends and family, I decided to see if I could make some money, I created an Instagram page and a Facebook group and fast forward 1 year later, here we are! I have ventured into screen prints, boutique clothing, some graphic design, home decor and so much more!
BRAES was created because resilience and strength got me through a really though time. The vision I have for this business now is more than I can wrap my head around, but we all start somewhere!
Thank you for being a friend, supporter and most importantly, a part of this journey!
